The amount of money wasted annually on substandard policy that gives little benefit or protection to our great British Farmers is simply unacceptable. Diseases like TB have destroyed farms across the country and continue to spread.
As an island nation we have the ability to control and implement strategies that have proven in the past to be effective and sustainable. If we wish to trade effectively with other countries across the globe it is our responsibility to ensure we have the highest standards of biosecurity and disease control possible.
TFU has set out 3 core aims under disease control policy
Unquestionable biosecurity standards for our farms that will stand up to any inspection worldwide
Have a national traceability system that provides our farmers and consumers with real time information and protection by being able to shut down disease outbreaks almost immediately
Eradicate diseases one by one that cost our farmers money in lost trade or increased costs.
We have an opportunity to embrace and utilise proven technology that has become available at an affordable price to cut through the red tape, reduce the costs of food production and provide confidence in our welfare and production standards. Please take the time to evaluate and vote on any policy updates that are published and through common sense, balance and persevering we can get rid of the diseases that hold us back.
